DIAL-UP CUSTOMER SUPPORT

Setting up Dialer

 

Once your account is established. You can either install our dialer provided by us or download it here. If you decide to download our dialer, save it to the desktop or in a place that you can easily access. Once installed click on the dialer to access it.

 

To begin, type in your user name and password which was decided at the time the account was established. If you'd like to save your password, click on the "save password" box. 

 

Click Add Location - give this a location a name such as home or work to help organize locations if you use multiple access numbers for different locations.

 

Select your area code. Click on the drop down menu and scroll down to find your area code. This will list all access numbers using that area code.

 

Choose your location. Choose a number that is local call for you. Please contact your phone company if you are unsure.  

 

IMPORTANT - we are not responsible for any long distance calls that my result from choosing a number that is not considered to be a local call.

Click add.

 

Click Next - click to uncheck the box that says dial area code if you do not need to dial the area code to reach the access number. Click yes to apply and then next. Finish.

 

Make sure you phone line is connected and click connect.


Create Manual Connection in Windows XP

 

From the Start menu, choose the Control Panel.
 

Note: If you are running Windows XP in classic mode, you will need to select the Start menu, select Settings, then choose Control Panel.
 

If you see "Switch to Classic View" under the Control Panel, click on the Category, Network and Internet Connections then go to step 3. If you see "Switch to Category View" under the Control Panel, double-click on the Network Connections icon and go on to step 4.
 

Click on the Network Connections link.
 

Under the Network Tasks group on the left, click on the Create a new connection link.
 

Now you should see the New Connection Wizard. Click the Next button.
 

Select "Connect to the Internet".  Click the Next button.  Select "Setup my connection manually".
 

Click the Next button.  Select "Connect using a dial-up modem".  Click the Next button.
 

For ISP Name, type "PC Lapeer".  Click the Next button.
 

Under Phone number, enter the dial-up telephone number for PC Lapeer listed below.
 

Type the appropriate PC Lapeer dial-up number, based on your location, from the list below.  

 

IMPORTANT - We are not responsible for any long distance calls that my result from choosing a number that is not considered to be a local call.

 

Click the Next button. In the text fields provided, type your username and password.

You were given a username and password when you signed up for your account. Make sure to enter this information in all lower-case letters without any spaces and use @pclapeer.com following your username.  Example: john@pclapeer.com.

 

If you have multiple accounts on your computer and would like to use this connection for all of the accounts, check the first check box.  If you would like PC Lapeer to be your default internet connection, check the second check box. If you would like Microsoft's internet firewall turned on, check the third box.

 

Click the Next button. Check the box next to " Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop" if you wish to have a shortcut to the connection on your desktop.
 

Click the Finish button.
 

Note: You should now see your new PC Lapeer connection in the Network Connections window.


You have successfully created a PC Lapeer Dial-up Connection in Windows XP.

Web Accelerator

Click here to download the web  accelerator. Run the program. The first time you connect you will be asked for a user name and password. Your user name is the user name you set up for your dial-up account with the extension @pclapeer.com. Example - username@pclapeer.com. Your password is the password setup for your dial-up account.


Web Mail

 

You can access your web mail by typing  http://pclapeer.com/webmail in your browser. Enter your username and password determined upon setting up your hosting account. Your user name is your email address. Example john@pclapeer.com. For easy access you can select File> Send Shortcut to Desktop.

 

There are 2 web mail platforms to choose from. Use which ever you like best. Emails will be sent to both but once folders and address books are created you will only be able to access them from the platform you created it in.


Setting Up Outlook Express

Outlook Express is a is a popular POP email software from Microsoft which is available on both Windows and Macintosh platforms. This tutorial shows you how to configure Outlook Express to retrieve mail from your PC Lapeer email account.

1. Start your Outlook Express software. Click 'Tools' and select 'Accounts'.

2. On the Internet Accounts page, select the Mail tab, click 'Add' and then select 'Mail'.

3. On the Your Name page, enter the email sender's name as the Display name and click 'Next'.

4. On the Internet E-mail Address page, enter the email sender's email address as the E-mail address and click 'Next'.

5. On the E-mail Server Names page, select POP3 as your incoming server type and enter the incoming and outgoing mail servers and then click 'Next' to continue.

My incoming mail server is a: POP3 server

Incoming mail server (POP3): mail.pclapeer.com

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.pclapeer.com

6. On the Internet Mail Logon screen, enter userID@pclapeer.com as your Account name and your email account password and then click 'Next'. You may check 'Remember password' but DO NOT check 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)'.
 

7. On the servers tab - check the box that says my server requires authentication.


Congratulations! You have successfully setup your POP email software. Click Finish to end.

 


Setting Up Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is a powerful email and scheduling program offered as part of the Microsoft Office suite of applications. This tutorial shows you how to configure Outlook to retrieve mail from your PC Lapeer email account.

1. Start your Outlook software. Click 'Tools' and select 'Options'.

2. On the Options page, select the Mail Setup tab and click 'E-mail Accounts...'.

3. On the E-mail Accounts page, select 'Add a new e-mail account' and click 'Next'.

4. On the Server Type page select 'POP3' server type.

5. On the Internet E-mail Settings (POP3) page enter the email user name and e-mail address, user name and password and incoming and outgoing mail servers and then click 'Next'. You may check 'Remember password' but DO NOT check 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)'.
